Patience Lovell Wright, whose traveling waxworks exhibit preceded Madame Tussaud's work by 30 years, became well known as much because of having an eccentric personality as for having skillfully rendered popular public figures in wax.

Let me try this...The answer should be "E"

A: bad parallelism
because of... is not parallel to for...

B: exhibits poor parallelism:
having an eccentric personality, a gerund phrase, is placed in parallel with skilful wax renderings..., a noun phrase.

C: extremely bad parallelism
- one part is a phrase (because of ...), and the other part is a complete clause (she was for her ...)
- because vs. for

D: bad parallelism
- 'for' in the second part is required(it should be '...as for having...')
- wordy (compare with the compact wording in choice e)

E exhibits proper parallelism, in that both of the parallel items are noun phrases (personality and renderings).

How E can be the OA. where is the verb ?

"became" is in the non-underlined part.

But still E doesnt seem good for me.

I chose B first, but B is not parallel either..

Wright became as well known for X as for Y.

It does not make any sense to me at all.

Became well known as for X as for Y

B still makes sense though not perfect parallel

Became well known as much for X as for Y.
X= having personality
Y= her skillful wax rendering of figures

simple gerunds can be compared with complex gerunds.

It looks as though became'" should not have been underlined. It is needed with all versions. Note it is not part of answer A

E is correct here. This is very tough problem.

I am down at B and E, because of the ||ism.

I rejected B because

'known for' is better than 'having personality' is
