Got beat - 690 (Q44, V40) - confused

Hi all,
720 is what I aimed for going into the exam. Unfortunately I got hammered on Quant and ended up with 690.

The schools I had in mind originally were MIT, Chicago, Ross and Yale. After see a score of 690, the list has become Ross, Yale, Darden and Johnson.

Should I retake the exam? I doubt that I will be able to score over 720 (which is 7% higher the percentage ranking than 690), and I really want to put more focus on the other admission components. However, is 700+ almost a requirement for the schools I'm applying to?

Little more on my backgound:
- 2 years exp in consulting
- Engineering - 3.8 GPA from a reputable university in Canada

I would def suggest a retake - if you can maintain the verbal score and improve the Quant scores.

However, if you think ( and I hope you dont) that your 40 in verbal was a fluke or the highest you've scores so far, then I would suggest giving teh retake a strong thought because the next time you could have a high quant and a messed up verbal - which shall push your scores down even further


Just my two cents. If I got a 690, I would retake - no question about that.

also depends on the type of work and type of consulting.

top tier strategy consulting (mbb) might offset a lower gmat, while something like IT consulting probably would not.
