Area of shaded region.

What is the area of shaded region?

1. The area of rectangle ABCD is 54.
2. DE=2EC.

The shaded region is half of the entire ABCD rectangular region.

Statement 1) Area of rectangle is given. Area of shaded region can be calcluated (i.e. half of area ABCD). Sufficient.

Statement 2) No info dimensional info. Insufficient.

Choose A.

I got tricked as first time too. Just do the calculation, area of the triangle = AB * AD / 2 = S / 2
