7. A higher interest rate is only one of the factors, albeit an important one, that keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did earlier in the decade.

a) that keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did earlier in the decade.
b) that keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, as it did earlier in the decade
c) that keeps the housing market from spiraling out of control, as it did earlier in the decade
d) that keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like earlier in the decade
e) that keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like it did earlier in the decade

Ideally "A higher interset rate = singular = keeps" .. what is this one of the factors
Need to be awake if the next sentence uses plural.. then it will be "factors"

as > like as no nouns compared... I can see an 'it' it == interst rate"

C for me...
First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement
Second take: coming soon..

A tricky question, That is referring back to factors so plural verb Keep is required...most of the times i check this thing by asking a question from the verb WHO KEEP/KEEPS, but here both the interest rate and factors fitting in equally..then i realize this rule

One of the books THAT/WHO ARE NOT IS

so go with the plural keep...Op E LIKE can not be followed by a verb hence wrong..in D whong comparison...hence i think its B

IMO it refers to market here.
if you are confused abt SV in such contructions you can use this:
that - essential modifier, it modifies the noun before it, in this case it is factors (u can ignore albeit an important one - non essential modifier) so we have factors that keep, as factors is plural.

does it help?

I get this from my notes, (courtesy Atul's earlier posts):
you can use this too to finalize upon plural verb keep.
One of the 'Noun' (will always be plural)+Singular Verb (usually 'is')
It is only when the plural noun is followed by 'that/who' that the singular verb changes into plural.
One of the 'Noun'(will always be plural) + that/who + Plural Verb

BUT, also note one exception...

IF THE ONLY ONE IS PRESENT THEN VERB SHOULD BE SINGULAR

He is THE ONLY ONE of my friends who IS an IT professional

NO the pronoun IT should refer to INTEREST RATE...market doesn't make any sense

which of the followig makes sense?

A higher interest rate is only of the factors that keep the housing market from spiraling out of control, like interest rate did earler in the decade.

Stacey's says the below and i quote:

When you say "as it did" you are referring to some noun that did something. Earlier in the sentence, the "rate" didn't do anything - I can't say, "oh, earlier in the decade the rate did X." The "market" on the other hand was spiraling out of control earlier in the decade

Hi..i can't say that Stacy is wrong as she is the Master and m just a non-native learner but still even after putting market/rate for IT, m not convinced that it should be market...because my opinion is
See the verb in As it did...here if u ask question from this verb DID WHAT???
then u get keeping the housing market from spiraling out of control...so u noticed this action performed by the verb DID okay...now this action is done by whom?? THE MARKET or THE INTEREST RATE...certainly the answer is RATE not the MARKET...

This is just my point of view...i check the action(verb) and got interest rate as my answer

Thanks
