0 or 1 as even or odd in GMAT

by focus1234 » Sun Dec 25, 2011 6:21 am
Hi Folks,

At the onset, would like to wish the entire BTG community a Merry Christmas

Just came across a concept on which I need to clarify the following:

In a set of 3 consecutive multiples (x+1) (x) (x+2), where x is odd, the reference material considered 3 as odd instead of 1 - any reason for not considering 1 as odd?

Similarly, where x is even the same reference source considered 2 instead of 0 - why was 0 not considered as 0 is alsso an even?

Guys, pls help!

Merry christmas!
zero is even and one is odd
not just in GMAT land, it is true everywhere :)
May be your reference source might have taken some examples to get to the answer.
But could you let us know whether the conditions or the question is failing for 0 & 1 or not?
If you could post the problem, it will be helpful for others as well.

0 is even and 1 is odd, no doubt.

THough, generally 0 and 1 are considered poor choices for substitution for multiple answer choices may satisfy given conditions for n=0 or 1.

Cannot clarify further without knowing the exact problem.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feedback....

The question stem is as follows:

If x^3-x=p, and x is odd, is p diivisible by 24?

Solution Hint: the author has factored x out of the expression to prove that x^3-x are consecutive integers
