Baltic Sea Sediments

Scientists have observed large concentrations of heavy-metal deposits in the upper twenty centimeters of Baltic Sea Sediments, which are consistent with the growth of industrial activity there.

(A) same as above

(B) Baltic Sea Sediments, where the growth of industrial activity is consistent with these findings.

(C) Baltic Sea Sedimets, findings consistent with its growth of industrial activity.

(D) sediments from the Baltic Sea, findings consistent with the growth of industrial activity in the area.

(E) sediments from the Baltic Sea, consistent with the gowth of industrial activity there.

IMO in B there is a slight alteration to the intended meaning
findings of metal deposit needs to be consistent with the industrial growth
not the other way as expressed by B

This says, Baltic Sea Sediments, where the growth of industrial activity is consistent with these findings.
Now we cannot have

BaLTIC SEA SEDIMENT, SEDIMENTS THE GROWTH OF INDSL. ACTIVITY IS CONSISTENT....

I have HIGHLIGHTED the second SEDIMENTS to signify "WHERE"

Re-read the sentence and you will notic it will not make sense ! :)

B - "where" introduces a noun modifier and should indicate a place but sediments are not a place. =Incorrect

Main clause is a a finding. So I believe that it is better to use a comma+ING modifier.


Main clause, finding + ...
This is perfect in D

question folks - "consistent with" in E, is that an appositive?

If so what's the rule? Does it have to always modify the noun right before??

C has pronoun error. "its" does not have a clear antecedent.

I rejected E becoz 'there' refers to baltic sea.INDUSTRIAL ACTIVITY IN BALTIC SEA.....wrong.

Strikingly wrong word with A is 'there'. Whenever you see 'there', 'this' in SC questions, try to find out what these words are referring to?

There is referring to nothing in A. therefore, I rejected it.
