Last year department store x had sales total for december that was 4 times the average of the mnthly sales totals for january through november. THE SALES TOTAL WAS WHAT FRACTION OF THE SALES TOTAL FOR THE YEAR?

qa is 4/15. I got 4/11

this is how: picking number avg sales for monthly (jan -nov) 10 and consequently total sales for december = 40. total sales for jan -nov = 10 x 11= 110
total sales for december = 40


vuala! 4/11 I dont see how the solution is right!
Appetite for 700 and I scraped my plate!

The question asks for the fraction of December sales to total sales for the year.

I like your method... so January through November accounts for 110 and December accounts for 40, for a total of 150 for the year.

December sales to total annual sales is 40 to 150 or 4/15.

The key here is to make sure the denominator is the total annual sales, not just the sales of January through November.
