I agree with u on C.

It cannot be [spoiler]D)[/spoiler] If it really is then both of us missed something. Whats the source providing this OA?


Stmt I

│x + 3│= 14

X+3 = 14
X=11 (SATISFIES THE MOD EQN)

-x-3 = 14
-x=17
x=-17 (SATISFIES THE MOD EQN)

2 different values

INSUFF

Stmt II

(x+2)^2 = 169

|x+2| = 13

x+2 = 13
x=11 (SATISFIES THE MOD EQN)

-x-2 = 13
x = -15 (SATISFIES THE MOD EQN)

Stmt I and II together

x=11 one definite value for |x+7|

What is the value of │x + 7│?
(1) │x + 3│= 14
(2) (x + 2)^2 = 169

first equatin gives x as 11 , -17

Second equation gives x as 11, -15

Together common value is 11

Hence IMO C

Please take this as a friendly request:

SHOW YOUR WORK. This will benefit others on this forum. Like Logitech mentioned before all of us can keep our IMO's to ourselves as no one benefits from it.

I am sure u r pretty knowledgable and if u can share some of that knowledge by providing detailed solutions (taking the time to do it) then all of us can benefit from it.I know you have made a conscious effort to move away from IMO's to slighlty expanded IMO'S but if u can take this a notch higher and provide deatiled solutions then it will benefit one and all.

Hope u take this as nothing more than a request. Good luck!

The problem with sets is the OA's cant be trusted at all times. Good to get it clarified through the forum. I have seen problems where the OA provided by sets is wrong. Hopefully this is one of them.

I get a C as well.
My approach was pretty much same as Cramya. I must proudly admit that I learnt this technique from Cramya!!!... So thanks to you maan.

On Ronnie's posts. He seems very cryptic in his explanations.
It does not make much sense to just do a "IMO x" replies or provide a cryptic explanation. His reasoning could be one of these or maybe different:
1. Just rack up the post count so that he would get some "grade" like "Gmat destroyer or Gmat titan", and posting "IMO x" is the fastest way to do that. If this is true, then it is one lame way to achieve it.

2. Maybe he does not want to share his awesome tricks to solve some of them faster/better; instead, on the prowl to find better tricks. I agree that we are all feeding off each other by sharing out tricks and methods, sharing the procedure/trick will solidify the method.

"The more you share knowledge the more you learn"

If Ronnie's intentions are less than honest, then my sincere request is pls dont post your replies at all.

Ronnie, pls consider this as a friendly request.

Shouldn't it be D as it is asking the value inside the MOD which will always be positive, irrespective what the sign(- or +) X has.

Pls provide clarity. Im a bit confused here.
