ESSAY QUESTION:
"People should be strictly prohibited from using their cellular phones in public places where their conversations could disturb others: on the bus, at a restaurant, or in a museum."

From your perspective, how accurate is the above statement? Support your position with reasons and/or examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.

My RESPONSE:
The Issue that people should be strictly prohibited from using cellular phones at public places such as bus, resturant or museum is highly controversial. Though at one time the recommendation seems valuable, I strongly disagree with such recommendation and believe considering such recommendation would have harsh concequences.

I believe that public places are meant for general people and they needs to be freed from any such prohibition that sacrifices general principles of freedom. The world is heading to a society where each and every individual has its own right of expression and has freedom to act or express any thing in public. In fact, Public places should be an example for such freedom. Moreover, talking on cell phones at public places shouldn't be classified as a disturbance because term "public place" itself conveys that no one can demand privacy in such places. For example, consider the case in China and in India, two fastest developing nations. China, due to various such prohibitions on such freedom, is not at all a happy place to live in as compared with India or any other democratic country. This was highlighted in the happiness index as well, which shows that people in China are not much happy and doesn't enjoy much of freedom. No major Chinese city is classifed in top ten happiest cities. The government or society must be intented to provide a environment where people are much happier to live in and cherish thier freedom, as it is in India and implementing such prohibition may take a hit on this intent.

I also believe that people generally don't prefer to talk on mobile phones at public places unless there is some emergency or some important things to discuss on. Hence, prohibiting communication over cell phone is not at all justified at any public place. One may face a situation of life and death and due to lack of such communication, may not live anymore. Considering the scenario, one must answer who would be responsible for such incidence? Should it be Government following such recommendation, society or the general people who are forced not to pick up the phone in public place?

Due to above several reasons, I believe that communication via cellular phone in public places should always be allowed and such communication shouldn't be considered as an act of distrubance.
