First question in CR- OG13

I am quite confused at the explaination given for first question of CR in OG13.
According to me correct answer was (A), but OG13 explains answer as (C).
Does any one agree with this? or have some other perspectives? Why C should be correct why not A?
How " A undermines position? ". Since there can be other impurities than bacteria that needs to be removed, conventional system must be retained even thouth new system is implemented.
I dont see any issue with this reasoning. Can anyone explain?

Hey Supriya,

The question is asking us for the strongest reason for municipalities to opt for QuickFreeze despite having to maintain conventional purification systems. NOT the strongest reason for municipalities to retain conventional systems.

For the latter, your answer choice of A would be perfect.

Since we are asked for the former, we have to ask ourselves why municipalities would buy QuickFreeze? (They already have conventional purification systems. Why buy QuickFreeze in addition to that?) C answers our question perfectly.

In case anyone needs it, here is the question:

Snow making machines work by spraying a mist that freezes immediately on contact with cold air. Because the sudden freezing kills bacteria, Quick Freeze is planning to market a waste water purification system that works on the same principle. The process works only when temperatures are cold, however, so municipalities using it will still need to maintain a conventional system.

Which of the following, if true, provides the strongest grounds for a prediction that municipalities will buy Quick Freeze's purification system despite the need to maintain a conventional purification system as well?

(A) Bacteria are not the only impurities that must be removed from waste water.

(B) Many municipalities have old waste water purification systems that need to be replaced.

(C) Conventional waste water purification systems have not been fully successful in killing bacteria at cold temperatures.

(D) During times of warm weather, when it is not in use, Quick Freeze's purification system requires relatively little maintenance.

(E) Places where the winters are cold rarely have a problem of water shortage.



Shenoydevika has explained this one perfectly! We need a reason why you want Quick Freeze in addition to conventional systems. So that is choice C.
