Had first F2F meeting with GMAT and yes it knocked me with a score of 640 .
I am eyeing Columbia or ISB (general management) so need your advice on same.

GMAT : 640
Degree: Bachelors in computer science.
Academics : Over 80% throughout in school and college (topper in school and university)
Industry : IT services (most common)
Experience : 5 years (3+ years of international experience)
Extra Curricular : various awards in debates, sports and artistic activities throughout career at various level
Additional features : involved with education industry for past 7-8 years (like tutoring, mentoring and working with NGO to conduct educational programs)
Goal : To get alligned to the education industry. Reason to join MBA is to learn methods of managing, promoting and running an (educational) organization.

Any help and recommendation from you all is appreciated.

Hello, Sunil,

I'm afraid that the GMAT is low enough for both schools you mention that it could be a significant obstacle. While it most likely would not cause the adcom to actually question your ability, you are in a category (Indian and IT) that has high scores generally and you would be viewed within this group.

On the other hand, your education-focused experience and interest is a differentiating factor. While I still think these programs would be very high reaches, other schools just a tad less competitive might be a good bet. And definitely focus on the education angle in the esssays.

Best regards,
