Profile evaluation - Top Finance schools

Hi,

Please review profile and give your comments;

Country: Kyrgyzstan (Central Asia, former Soviet Union)
Age: 31
Undergraduate: American University in Central Asia, Business Administration, GPA: 3.53
GMAT: 710(Q50, V37) - first attempt, ibtTOEFL - 109
Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

Work experience:

1)M&A and financial analyst. Medical laboratories chain, operates in former Soviet Union republics. 2010 - present (1+ year)
- financial due diligence of target objects for acquisition
- implementation of financial controls: standard costing, cost controlling, set up integration tasks for billing and accounting IT-systems, developed and implemented inventory management procedures that resulted in significant reduction of operating costs.

2) Financial analyst. State agency aimed to foster economic development. 4 months.
Agency was closed down by the new government after the revolution in 2010.

3) Big4 audit Firm, last position assistant manager. 6.5 years of work experience.
- Acted in various industrial and service sector audit projects: banking and finance, power production, petroleum distribution, transportation, telecommunication, and construction materials industry.
- Managed a portfolio of clients with total assets of more than USD 150 mln.
- Delivered a wide range of assurance services, including: audit and compilation of financial statements prepared in accordance with US GAAP and IFRS, test of controls, development of recommendations regarding design and implementation of internal controls

Social work:
co-organised merit based scholarship program for high school students in remote region.

Target schools: Wharton, Stern, Columbia, Chicago Booth

You certainly do have a good profile and it lines up with what most schools expect from MBA applicants. Plus you come from a country where they see very few candidates, and this can be a huge plus for ya!
The only thing that concerns me is your age, which well there's nothing you can about it (the age I mean). But in your application, you really have to work to show the AdCom that you really NEED this MBA and that you fit in with the class. Other than that, given that, you might want to add another school or two to the list which would give your overall more competitive chances. I would suggest Johnson, which has a super finance program

I have thought about my age and have the same concerns. Certainly I will try to persuade Adcom that it should not be an obstacle. Thanks a lot!

Given your age, you might add some schools that favor older applicants and are still strong in finance like Berkeley Haas and Dartmouth Tuck. You might also consider less selective schools like UCLA Anderson, Michigan Ross, and Duke Fuqua too.
