Hello Pavan,

I am sure you recognize that you will be part of a large and very competitive applicant pool. Your metrics are solid and your work experience is inline. You will have two key hurdles to overcome. One is the lack of managerial experience. This is a problem for an enormous proportion of the IT specialists applying to business school. You need to look at your work and identify areas in which you performed as a leader even without formal responsibility or title. Schools will also want to be sure you have a clear understanding of the reasons behind your career change. Why are you changing? What in your background has prepared you for the new field you have chosen? What in your training, interests and experience suggests you will be successful in the new field.

You have an interesting career goal, which will be helpful. You need to be sure that you explain it clearly and tell why you believe you can be effective. Also, take care to identify a logical path from school through immediate post-school positions to your long term goal.

Much will depend on the quality of your essays. Be sure you have a strong resource such as a professional admissions consultant to guide you through the process.

Good luck,
Tani Wolff
