Solution:

We have 600 workers who worked 20 hours, 300 workers who worked 40 hours, and the remaining 100 workers who worked 50 hours.

For the 600 workers who worked 20 hours, payroll was 600 x (20 x 6) = $72,000.

For the 300 workers who worked 40 hours, payroll was 300 x (35 x 6) + 300 x (5 x 7.5) = $74,250.

For the 100 workers who worked 50 hours, payroll was 100 x (35 x 6) + 100 x (15 x 7.5) = $32,250.

Therefore, the total payroll for all1000 workers is 72,000 + 74,250 + 32,250 = $178,500.
