RESPONSE:
Censorship of offensive language and behavior of television and radio programs is a very delicate problem. Different countries apply different policies related to this topic. Some countries chose to strictly censor these programs while others prefer a moderate censorship. I prefer the former point of view because I think that if these programs are not carefully censor, they can have very bad influence on our children and our society.
Firstly, in my opinion, the children learn very quickly from what they hear and see. The childhood is a very important period in the personality development. Once the children learned bad information, it is very difficult to remove this information from them, and this can badly influence their personality. It is better to prevent them from hearing or seeing bad language or bad behavior than to correct them in the future.
Secondly, not only can children be influenced from these programs but also the entire society can be influenced from them. In fact, we tend to repeat what we hear or see in our life. Sometimes we repeat this information in an uncontrolled way. If we watch violent language and actions everyday, we can one day repeat them without realizing what we are doing.
Thirdly, television and radio programs reflect the culture of a country. If a tourist comes to visit our country and she hears and sees incorrect information from these programs, this tourist may have bad image about our country and she can tell this to her friends and her relatives. This can leads to a reduction of the number of tourists to our country, and this reduction is not good at all for our economy.
I agree that the ones who do not support a censorship of television and radio programs have their own reasons. To some people, this censorship can be seen as a limitation of expression freedom. However, freedom does not mean you can do anything. Freedom of a person should not violate the rights of other people.
To sum up, I prefer a strict censorship of television and radio programs by government. However, we should also make sure that this censorship does not violate the expression freedom. For example, we can establish the special channels for uncensored television programs that allow only registered people to watch their contents.
