Economists warn that the benefits of working abroad may prove short-lived, [ especially

(1) especially when the global economic downturn will force workers to return home to an economy that
no longer will absorb them
(2) particularly if the global economic downturn will be forcing the workers returning home to an
economy that would no longer absorb them
(3) mainly when the global economic turndown may force workers to return back home to economies
that might no longer absorb them
(4) chiefly if the global economic turndown forces the workers to return home to economies which might
not absorb them
(5) especially if the global economic turndown forces workers to return home to an economy that can no
longer absorb them

because its may prove short-lived.... and so can no longer makes a sense for me.

I am between A and E.

Both of them are adverbial clause. However, we are dealing with prediction. And the most often used construction is "If...will, then...". Since "will" emphasizes on the prediction, I will go with A.

The correct answer is E. Because in the first part of the sentence "May" is used so the circumstances are possible but not certain. the last answer choice uses the construction: IF Present Then May/Can which implies some uncertainty.

also between A and E, i love A better but feel that E is right answer.
in one grammer english book:
"we use present simple but not future ( not will) in adverbial clauses introduced by time conjunctions such as after, before, when , until, and in conditional clauses with if, unless, in case, provided"
but it can be wrong implication
vote for E and waiting for OA!!

E for sure... When is not correct because when indicates a time... however in this case we are looking for a condition, hence if is correct..

when is incorrect.. 1,3 eliminated
4) incorrect use of which
2) will be forcing..returning... incrrect usage...
