there are two main manufacturers of light plains in this regional market:speedstar and lightning. Unlike the crash rate of lightning built airplanes,the crash rate of speed star airplanes has decreased in the last five years. Thus, although the number of passangers who refuse to take lightning built airpalnes has not yet increased, it will inevitably will increase.

which of the following ,if true , most seriously weakens the argument above..?
1. the rate of crashes of speedstar airpalnes that involve fatalities and injuries has increased in the last five years.
2.lightning built airplanes make up the majority of the fleets of low-cost airlines, which charge travelers approx. 25 % less per trip than do airlines that use speedstar.
3.the price that airline pay for the lightning built airplane has remained constant in the past five years.
4. changes in airline consumer preference always lag behind subtle trends in airline safty rates.
5. .....irrelevant.

i dont find any option good enough...( B comes close a little) so, i choose B.

while argument/stem says.....
Unlike the crash rate of lightning built airplanes,the crash rate of speed star airplanes has decreased in the five years.
...is this possible/true to contradict the statement given in stem.

I pick A.

Even if speedstar airlines have enjoyed fewer crashes over the past 5 years, if the crashes that they have suffered have resulted in an increase in deaths and fatalities then it weakens the argument. Moreover, this is the only answer choice that directly talks about the frequency of crashes and not about other factors which we look at now to eliminate the other choices

B) Talks about price and not about the frequency of crashes
C) Ditto
D) The argument already states that customers have not yet switches but will INEVITABLY do and hence this part of the premise helps us eliminate D which states that changes in airline preference lag behind trends.

E) The most tempting answer choice :)

I agree. A doesn't directly contradict the original premise, but adds to it: fewer crashes overall, but the ones that do occur seem to be more fatal. This weakens the argument, as it provides a reason against moving from lightning to speedstar despite speedstar's decrease in crashes.

Is the question pasted correct?

Current version:

Correct version:
Thus, although the number of passangers who refuse to take speed star airpalnes has not yet increased, it will inevitably will increase.

this leads to decrese in no of passengers of lightplanes but it has not happened.

because:- "the rate of crashes of speedstar airpalnes that involve fatalities and injuries has increased in the last five years"

hence the no of passengers of lightplanes has not decersed.

Is this a good GMAT quality question? I would pick A too... as it is the only one related to the topic. It thus stands out. But is this a good question?
