Hi guys,

After months of preparations I finally took the GMAT today and, truth me told, I am not happy with what I scored. I knew I lost my mojo during the quantitative section but pulled myself together in the verbal one. I was dissapointed when I saw 660 on the screen. I am pretty certain that I want to retake the test in a few months to prepare myself a little better. Still would like to know if my candidacy would take me anywhere with that score.

Hey there,

Of course it would! I'm not sure exactly where you're looking to go or what you want out of an MBA so if you could provide a little more information on that front that would definitely help.

Overall, you have a strong profile, a good GPA, and some impactful extracurriculars with a demonstrated passion and trajectory.

I mean, at a high level, I know you're disappointed with your score (for what it's worth a 660 is good score!) but you've got a lot of things working for you - don't sell yourself short mate.

I am looking at top 20 schools in the US now hoping that my underrepresented nationality among students will help me a little :) I want to move from the editing side of media into the financial and creative side of it, hopefully pursuing career in one of entertainment agencies.

That's why I am looking closely at Columbia (got to visit the campus and took part in their seminar in Warsaw a few weeks ago) and NYU. Wouldn't say no to Booth, Wharton or Northwestern, while I'm still dreaming about Harvard. I'm primarly aiming at the East Cost not to be too far away from Europe. Though UCLA is very tempting.

Hi there,

Yes, being underrepresented helps :)

I think Columbia and NYU are obvious and logical choices. I think Kellogg is a must as well. Wharton and Booth, while great in finance, may be more finance oriented than you necessarily want or need but that's just a though to consider.

UCLA should also definitely be on your list. You either want Marketing programs with strong general management curriculums or schools located in entertainment hubs.

Now, to be frank, for all of those programs, a higher GMAT score is pretty important. Even UCLA's average is a 704 with the bottom 10th percentile @ 660. Duke and Ross are also worth consideration - their marketing specializations are both top 10 at 4 and 8 respectively. However, they're not geographically located in ideal locations but they are very strong programs.

Yes, I'm thinking I have to re-take the test. Seems that I would leave a lot to a chance if I applied with my current score.
