Hi All,

I invite all b-school admission consultants to review the new business model for admission consulting thsat will ensure honest effort from consultant's perspective and commitment from students seeking admission.

My proposal is to work on profit/risk sharing basis.

For example -
1. You review my profile and conduct a short interview and shortlist 5 b-schools (some fixed fee for this phase)
2. If I want to pursue these 5 schools, we will work together for essays, interview prep, reco letters etc.
3. If I get admitted to any of the 5 schools (stop after first admission offer), I will pay you 100% of agreed (fixed) fee; if I don't get admission to any of the chosen 5 schools, I will pay you 25% of agreed (fixed) fee.

Before step # 2 starts, both parties will sign a contract per above terms and conditions.

Why tis model?

Think for a moment from candidates' perspective - what is the motivation for the consultant to make honest effort to work on application package for the candidate, if consultant is getting paid in full irrespective of the outcome?? This kind of model will ensure that consultant will not exaggerate candidate's chances just to earn money without caring for real potential.

Let me know what you think.

No admissions consultant can guarantee 100% about your admission - at the end of everything - you have interview with the school yourself! Applicant is expected to take their own responsibilities - we are here to guide and help.

Sophia,
Unfortunately, you did not understand my proposal.
All I am saying is that - fees should be based on performance - which is common practice in any business.
Fees should be coomunsurate with success arte so that admission consultants will ensure honest effort. Otherwise, there is no reason why one should try hard to make his customer happy.

I know this is a challenge no consultant would dare to take it. Everyone is concerned about his/her profit and not customers success. But I got you, not a problem.

Regards,
Sachin

No - I perfectly understand your needs - they are just placed without considering the fact that a candidate has his /her own role to play as well. Anyhow - good luck on your application process!

Sophia,

I think you understood the real intent. You want to play safe.

First point - you (consultant) is suggesting only schools which are potential match for the candidate after thorough review of his/her profile. You are eliminitaing almost all the risk.

Second point - if candidate agrees to the list suggested by consultant, why would he default?? There is no reason for candidate to default but there is reason for consultant to default if consultant is getting paid irrespective of the outcome.

This is simple CR question.

Thanks for your response thus far. Don't worry/bother to post reply if you still want to play safe.

Take care.

You are generalizing when it comes to consultants. How many actual references / people have you talked to?

In the past, I've given scholarships to people who cannot afford consultants (if the candidate has applied on time) - which means my services to that person are totally free of cost.
