Gmat score will be sent to 5 B-school?

by Anliv » Fri Jul 19, 2013 7:43 am
Hey,
After sitting for Gmat test, will the result be sent to 5 business school?
I have intend to apply in the next 2 years but now I have time for practising Gmat. Should I take the test soon?
Will the results will be kept at these 5 schools until I apply ,or in the next 2 years, I have to sent to these schools again? I have to ask because they cost me $28 for each additional business school?

Hey there,

The easiest solution here is to not select any programs if you're concerned about your performance and/or you're not applying for a few years. There is absolutely no downside to this. When you apply to schools, you have to self report your scores and, in some cases, provide a scanned copy of your unofficial school report. If you get into a program and accept the offer, then you'll only have to send one official report (and one fee as well).

The plus to sending your scores to schools before you apply is, if your score is high, you get flagged for their attention and they may reach out to you. However, if they don't have your score right away, it really doesn't matter.

Hope that helps!

"The plus to sending your scores to schools before you apply is, if your score is high, you get flagged for their attention and they may reach out to you." Never heard of this happening so I would double check this statement on your own. School's don't have time for all that...

Also, if I remember correctly, when you take the exam you can choose up to X schools and those are free. If you decide to send them to the schools separately after that then yes it's something like $28. No matter when you send your scores, the school will see ALL of your scores. Don't worry about that. Also, if you're concerned about $28 for the GMAT and sending the scores then I'm wondering how you feel about the whole application process in and of itself, plus the cost of business school.

This experience is EASILY $150,000 sans scholarships.
My goal is to make MBA applicants take onus over their process.

Hey there,

As I mentioned, this is only for high scores. I say this because it does happen to applicants (myself, in my day, included). It's a great method for them to determine their pipeline and target potentially high performing applicants. Schools very much do spend the time and effort - this is as competitive a process for them as it is for applicants.

They don't reach out to everyone, obviously. However, high scores do flag attention at universities across the board. This can result in invitations to specific events, additions to tailored mailing lists, invitations to scholarship opportunities, and application fee waivers.

Regards,

Varies by tier of program but within the top 3 to 4 percentile.

Like I said, high scores. It is in the best interest of schools to target high scoring applicants early in the process. Especially because the GMAT questionnaire captures a lot of information that can be used in real time or as a proxy to develop fairly robust profiles of potential applicants. It's fairly straight forward pipeline management.

Yes, it doesn't impact the vast majority of applicants. As I mentioned earlier, it is merely a "plus side" to reporting your scores.

However, while most applicants may not fall into this range, it is useful to have this information. After all, how schools view and target students by utilizing the GMAT score is worth knowing.
