"In some countries, television and radio programs are carefully censored for offensive language and behavior. In other countries, there is little or no censorship."In your view, to what extent should government or any other group be able to censor television or radio programs?
Explain, giving relevant reasons and/or examples to support your position.
The issue of Government's regulation in censoring television or radio programs is always contentious one. Under Human's birth right to choose freedom of expression, People demand complete freedom to choose & express. But in order to maintain harmony, amity & effective governance in any society, we need checks & regulations by authorized body. I agree that right of choice or expression is our birth right but our society needs authorized body like Government to maintain law & order situation in every aspect of society.
Today media is playing major role in evolution of country or society. Media led campaigns such as helping earthquake victims in Haiti, exposing corrupt politicians & bureaucrats or bringing injustice to common man are making differences in the lives of common people of any country. So freedom of expression to media i.e. T.V or radio is powerful tool for common people. However, to check or regulate biased or corrupt section of media, which led politically motivated or self benefited campaigns such as mislead .Our society needs an authorized government body that can enforce checks & measures on such section of media either T.V. or radio.
With globalization, the rate of exchange of cultures, ideas or different opinions among countries & societies has increased rapidly. The casual habits & practices of one country might be obscure for another country such as clothing sense of cast in Hollywood movies may be different from Middle East countries. Here, we need regulated body like FICCI, Federal Bureau etc that can sensor content of T.V. or radio, which may be extreme to one society.
In any society, viewership varies from children to old age & from youth to middle age. Each age group has right to choose any program on T.V. or radio as per their demand or need such as children want to watch cartoon, youth want to watch Hollywood movies or middle age people want to watch adult movies. We need government regulated body to provide right content of program to respective age group viewer. This will protect our children from exposure to adult viewed programs that might affect them negatively.
I want to conclude by saying that in today's global village where ideas are exchanging fastly by the means of T.V. or radio. Freedom of expression in t.v. or radio can be very well balanced by people elected Government, which has representatives of people.
