Directions for Starting App Process?

So I know what schools I want to apply to and I am taking the GMAT in a month, I just am a little unsure about some holes before application. Do I request transcripts first? Are there any time consuming plans that I need to take action for now before I apply? I am just totally lost and was wondering if someone with some experience could shed some light. Thanks in advance for any answers.
