I have 1 month left...what should i do?

by kpetrova123 » Wed Jun 18, 2008 7:08 pm
Hi guys,

I've been trying to get in shape for the gmat for about 5 months and i decided that i'm gonna go for it the beginning of august. Till now i have gone through the Kaplan, Princeton, Peterson. My scores are between 500-600 and i'm aiming for 700. I was thinking of getting the manhattan gmat self-study (i'm full time and work long hours) and just do it for 1 month. Do you think this is the best way? Any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you!

First i would say identify wat are your problem areas. Foe example is there a problem while taking the test or some conceptual errors you make while taking the the test.

You said u've done Kaplan, Princeton, and Peterson. Have you done GMAT Official Guide 11??? if not i wud suggest you to first do that and then go for GMAT Official Guide Quant Review and Verbal Review. You can also do GMAT Paper tests. If you want i can mail you these paper tests in pdf format.

and also take GMATPrep tests before the actual gmat you can reset them and take those again without much overlap. It works for about 2-3 times.

One thing, apart from Concepts and practice, ur confidence and time management matters a lot in actual GMAT. So dont take stress and strategise well.

Hope this helps.

I'm the same boat whre I got about 3 weeks left and trying to figure out the best way possibile to prepare myself. I sometimes think I'm spending more time then I should on this forum :) But I hope it's worth it since I always learn a new trick, eventhough I can't get lot of stuff done. I'm planning on concenteratin on OG11, gmt prep exams for the last 2 weeks and reading on all the notes I made. Not sure if anyone would suggest one of his/her success criteria during this last 3 weeks prep.

nidhisingh1984, can you please mail me the papaer tests you were refering to, I would be interested in them. Thanks!

I am taking the test in 4 weeks. I was going to keep practicing with new problems, but then I decided it is better to learn from Napoleon's mistake and not stretch myself thin.

My review for the next 4 weeks will be exclusively focused on the quant section as I am not going to gain much from working on my verbal (which is already at the upper 30s lower 40s).

At this point, I am going to review questions that I have answered incorrectly in the OG guides, MGMAT question banks, and MGMAT CATs. I am also going to review the problems I have attempted to dispel to myself in my blog and am going to review the problems from this forum that I saved in my del.icio.us favorites.

I don't think that I will gain much from doing new problems. Instead, it is better to REALLY understand the problems that I have answered incorrectly in my past attempts and therefore avoid making the same mistakes by the time of the test. I have hit my target score on three occasions over the last three weeks 640, 650, 640, but have also scored a 580 today and 510 about a month ago. These scores were low because of stupid/lazy mistakes. I know that there are A LOT of people on this forum who wish they had a dollar for every stupid mistake they made. Therefore, I think 3 to 4 weeks prior to an exam, it is better to solidify control over the concepts that you are already familiar with, rather than venturing into unfamiliar territory.

In my opinion, MGMAT books are very helpful. I don't work or took a class with MGMAT but I used the books for around 12 days and they really boost my quant skills. Go in order with the books and do the practice questions in the books and GMAC official books.
