I think the student might be misinterpreting / misunderstanding something here.You said when argument saying SOME then it can't be taken as a general inference.. then why we shud bother that whether SOME people THINK OR HOLD the claim , after all they are SOME PEOPLE (as u emphasized)
....no BUT the fact that some people think or hold that thing may be a TRUE INFERENCE. In fact, even if all people think x must be true we still can't infer that x must be true--we can only infer that all people think x must be true (but all people can be incorrect).b'coz wat some people think or hold cant be considered TRUE INFERENCE...!
