Hi All,

In the below question, the OA is "C". Can somebody please help me understand why "C" is preferred over "A"?

As litigation grows more complex, the need that experts explain technical issues becomes more apparent.

(A) that experts explain technical issues becomes
(B) for experts to explain technical issues became
(C) for experts to explain technical issues becomes
(D) that technical issues be explained by experts became
(E) that there be explanations of technical issues by experts has become

The correct idiom is 'need for X'
or 'need something'.

We can use need in the sentence...I need that. Here that just replaces something. It's used as a pronoun.

In the given question that is used to connect the sentence and not as a pronoun. Hence C is correct.

Is there any other way out to solve this question..as remembering such a huge list of Idiom is very difficult ...atleast for me. :-(... This idiom is totally new for me :-)

How to tackle similar questions if we do not remember the idiom...as in some other question some new idiom may spring up which we might not have any idea about.

Think about it this way: one of the splits in the sentence is "become" and "becomes" in this particular instance. If you look at the sentence carefully you will see that either "become" or "becomes" is modifying the word "need". Because the term "need" is singular you should be looking for the correct modifier, hence, "becomes". This choice eliminated all possibilities except for A and C. Even if you don't know the idiom you will still have a 50% chance of getting the question right . Personally, if I did not know the idiom I still think I would choose C because the term "need that" sounds awkward.

Option A: 'the need that experts'

'The need' and 'experts' are nouns and we dont use pronouns (that) to connect 2 nouns.
So 'the need for (preposition) experts' is better option and hence C is better than A.

But when 'need' is used as verb, the use of 'that' after need is fine.

I need that book.

Here 'need' is a verb.

what is more apparent.. experts ot the need.. after that we have IC which make experts more apparent which is wrong..

(B) for experts to explain technical issues became
for experts is better because it will make the need as subject and properly fits the need...more apparent. But here became should be becomes
(C) for experts to explain technical issues becomes

Correct

(D) that technical issues be explained by experts became
Same as A
(E) that there be explanations of technical issues by experts has become
Same as A
