Like Ambiguity

Statement 1 - I want to coach divers LIKE Greg Louganis.

Statement 2 - I want to coach divers, LIKE Greg Louganis.

I thought, In both cases "LIKE" is compared with "I". But I was wrong.

Please explain the subtle difference between these two statements, I am not able to figure out why statement 1 is not parallel.
If you cant explain it simply you dont understand it well enough!!!

Hi GaneshMalkar,

Based on how the two statements are written, here is how I "interpret" the meanings...

Statement 1: I want to coach divers SIMILAR TO Greg Louganis. (meaning...I want to coach divers that have the same skills as Greg Louganis).

Statement 2: I want to coach divers JUST AS Greg Louganis coaches divers. (meaning...I want to coach in a style that is similar to Greg Louganis's style).
