IMO E

---therapists say that success in breaking the mentioned habits is rare...

--- survey shows that millions have dropped these habits successfully

if the people who succeed in curing themselves don't go to therapists then therapists will not get to know about success stories...they will only make conclusion based upon their experiences with smokers and overeaters...if the people who drop these habits go to therapists then therapists will change their opinion....

D --> surveys do not include those who failed even after therapy --- > but surveys are not saying that it is easy to drop these habits...it is simply saying that millions have dropped these habits....even if people who cudn't drop their habits were included in the survey...survey can still say that millions have dropped these habits...

see the difference between two statements in stimuli....hope my explanation helps..

The choices were real close ....whats the OA??

I go with E.
The reason follows:

Some successes in the therapies can't be mapped to millions surveyed and the passage doesn't have any say about it. Hence A can't be true.

B isn't useful in solving the anomaly.

C is certainly out of context and goes way too far in reasoning.

D again resembles A in the fact that we don't know if the few cases who succeeded in the therapy can be mapped well to the millions surveyed. hence not D.

Considering that millions have been surveyed and that the therapists maintain that the failure in treatment is the trend, E describes of a possibility where the therapists might miss on success stories because they didn't come. This also holds true for the survey.
hence i go with E.

I am pretty sure that the right Answer is E
