After solving a couple of questions , i feel like singing the song - u spin my head ... for CR's , this was a mind boggling question .

All of John's friends say they know someone who has smoked 40 cigarettes a day for the past 40 years and yet who is really fit and well. John does not know anyone like that and it is quite certain that he is not unique among his friends in this respect.

If the statements in the passage are true, then which one of the following must also be true?

(A) Smoking often lie about how much they smoke.

(B) People often knowingly exaggerate without intending to lie.

(C) All John's friends know the same lifelong heavy smoker.

(D) Most of John's friends are not telling the truth.

(E) Some of John's friends are not telling the truth.

It is also a non-GMAT one (or at least, I don't think it is a real GMAT question), for two reasons

a. The GMAT, as a rule, doesn't do this sort of logical "If all A is B, then Some Bs are As" tpe questions.
and
b. a GMAT CR question will not, as a rule, require you to reach the conclusion that someone is lying. All premises given in a question need to be taken at face value.

Here, the two statements contradict each other: all of John's friends say that they are A, but John is not A, and he is not unique (meaning that there are more people among Jhn's groups that are not A, even though ALL of them say they are A). The only conclusion you can reach is that among John's friends there is at least one person who claims to be A without actually being one - so some of his friends are not telling the truth.

Thanks Geva for your opinion , its some LSAT question from Aristotle CRs collection , I am so relieved after reading your post . I guess i should not be solving these CRs , and get back to GMAT types that is OG . BUt i am exhausted with the sources to practice CR . Any suggestion for what shall i practice now for CRs ?

If you want my opinion, I think its better to study a smaller amount of official material, than a larger amount of official and unofficial material. Is it better to practice tennis with a pro, or practice tennis with a pro, and an then an amateur? Official GMAT questions are carefully crafted (for the most part), leading to (usually) unequivocal answers. Doesn't that seem to be the case? A lot of these unofficial questions are ambiguous. I say beware. Cheers!

You can try Real LSAT question, Grockit ques, OG10( if not done), Verbal review 1, 2 (if not done).

BTW whats the OA for this question , was it C?

what verbal review 1,2.u mean 1st ed. / 2nd ed or Vol. 1,Vol. 2
