B & E are out as they do not form a full sentence.

I picked A but after looking at OA it looks like D is correct.

In A we used although but in the second part, there is nothing thats opposite of the small museums that are devoted to local history or ethnic groups.

C is wrong for similar reason. second part that uses but does not have any thing opposite to what the first part of the sentence has

Another mistake in hurry was giving preference to A because of the either or construct.

D just uses the conjunction and to combine two different parts.

This is just to avoid other people spending the same amount of time which i am spending to find out the explanations of these brutal SC's

I picked up B :(

Here is my understanding of this SC from various internet sources.

Although dozens of New York's small museums are either devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, there are many one-of-a-kind museums from Manhattan to the Bronx that are open for exploration on summer weekends.

(A) Although dozens of New York's small museums are either devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, there are
- Choice A lacks parallelism. Devoted to is after either hence should be repeated for the or element as well.

(B) Although dozens of New York's small museums are devoted to local history or various ethnic groups,
- Choice B is incomplete. presence of THAT within the second sentence makes start "Many of" incomplete.

(C) Dozens of New York's small museums are devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, but there are
- The sentence lacks contrast, hence BUT is not required. The first sentence refers to extent to which the museums within New york are accessible. The second part refers to time in which they are open.

(D) Dozens of New York's small museums are devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, and there are also
- Correct

(E) Devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, dozens of New York's small museums and also
- Incomplete, As for option B.

I think option D lacks the contrast present in the original sentence with the usage of 'Although' and that's why I thought D isn't the correct answer.

If we fix the problem option A has and then compare A with D

A) Although dozens of New York's small museums are devoted to either local history or various ethnic groups, there are many one-of-a-kind museums from Manhattan to the Bronx that are open for exploration on summer weekends.

D) Dozens of New York's small museums are devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, and there are also many one-of-a-kind museums from Manhattan to the Bronx that are open for exploration on summer weekends.

Option D is grammatically right but I don't think it conveys the meaning with contrast.

Maybe D is best among the given options but not the ideal option.

Is this right ? The nuances in the original sentence may not be correct. Should we carry anything beyond the meaning of the sentence in the Q ?
When you start a sentence with Although in the first part you expect a contrast at the end. The sentence just sums up the different kind of museums you can explore on summer weekends. It is not that of the two kinds of museum mentioned some are closed for weekends.
For the same reason (C) which uses but there are may makes it an error.
E is unnecessarily passive.

That is a weird sentence, kind of the reverse of the OG ones where the sentence is fine but better WITH a word for contrast. Here, the contrast words make the answers wrong, because there's no sensible contrast. Although I went to the store today, there was snow on the ground from the big storm does not make sense as a contrast, since the one has no effect on the other. I went to the store today, and there was snow on the ground from the big storm does not imply a non-existent contrast.

I also thought the same..in my opinion original sentence conveys a sense of contrast but the correct option doesnt.
