Subject after comma

by massi2884 » Sun May 06, 2012 8:49 am
Can you help me in understanding why in OA B it is accepted that, after the comma, a subject (or pronoun) is not needed? Given that "and" after a comma needs a subject, I thought it was the same also for the other FANBOYS.
Thanks.

According to scholars, the earliest writing was probably not a direct rendering of speech, but was more likely to begin as a separate and distinct symbolic system of communication, and only later merged with spoken language.

A. was more likely to begin as
B. more than likely began as,
C. more than likely beginning from
D. it was more than likely begun from
E. it was more likely that it began

here the idiom used is not X, but Y. In this x and y have to be parallel. if x has a subject and verb then y should also have a subject and a verb.

in this question x does not have a subject hence there is no need for a subject in answer option.
correct answer option is B: began and merged are parallel.

We only need a subject after ", and" and ", but" if they are used to link independent clauses.
