I got caught between answer choice D and E and assumed E due to the clarification of "it" at the very end. This seems like a good 600 level question to me..

When in doubt, read both sentences again and think how you would say the sentence in a real life conversation. Works for me!

E is the answer but, i think B is used in spoken English. correct me if i am wrong!

I think 'D' is concise and 'E' has redundant word 'released.'
I feel it should be 'D'.

My Ans: A. they have already what? -- B . if not already , wrong - C. past - D. future continuous , req future perfect -- E. though wordy it's a complete sentence , with meaning . E = Correct

future/imperative/can/may/might/must/should/could + present bare infinitive,
if + present simple/present cont./present perfect/present perfect cont.

Election officials should release the result tomorrow morning, if they have not already.

A. release the result tomorrow morning, if they have not already.
B. release the result tomorrow morning, if not already.
C. have released the result tomorrow morning, if they have not already.
D. be releasing the result tomorrow morning, if they have not already.
E. release the result tomorrow morning, if they have not already released it.

Meaning - If the officials have not released the result, they should do tomorrow morning

Error Analysis -
Election Officials and release both plural
If they have not already ( meaning issue ) If they have not already what ?

A Meaning error
B If not already - Missing subject and verb both
C Have released - recent past - but meaning is in future
D Be releasing - wrong
E - perfect convey the meaning ( it is referring to singular result)

Want to share rule from MH SC book .

Whenever , you have a SV pair in which the Verb comes before the Subject . Used the flip rule .

That is flip V .. S to S ... V .

This work like cheese here :P
