Arguments to restrict immigration on the grounds that immigrants will take domestic jobs ignore the fact that immigrants, once employed, will earn and spend money on goods and services, creating new jobs that will more than make up for the old ones they took.

Which of the following is an assumption on which the argument depends?

(A) The immigrants will not send most of the money that they earn back to their hometowns
(B) Studies show that large scale inflow of immigrants invariably leads to an increase in the incidence of crime in that city
(C) The immigrants will not subsequently get their families to also join them in the new city
(D) Immigrants generally tend to save most of the money that they earn
OA is A

Option A - CORRECT.
This option has adequately represented the assumption which the argument depends on. Since the immigrants now live and work in the state they migrated to, it is certain that most of the incomes generated by immigrants will be spent in the state which they are because, the things the immigrants use in surviving (shelter, food, electricity, mobiles )are purchased within the state they are and taxes are allocated to the things purchased and services rendered. Within the period they live in the state the taxes collected are use to develop and boost the state economy which now reduces the money send back to the hometowns of the immigrants.


Option B - INCORRECT.
The study of the immigrants invariably leading to an increase in the incident of crime rates in the city may be true but it is not a reasoning to be considered in the argument above.

Option C - INCORRECT.
The immigrants might subsequently get their families to also join them in the new city and this will also help the state to generate more revenues from taxes payed by immigrants.

Option D - INCORRECT.
Immigrants generally tend to save most of the money that they earn, but still spend a large portion of their income to survive in the state they are. Immigrants usually pay more dues than the citizens of the state and high taxes are usually generated from immigrants.
