Studies of test scores show that watching television has a markedly positive effect on children whose parents speak English as a second language, as compared to those whose native language is English.


a. to those whose native language is English
b. with children whose native language is English
c. with those who are native English speakers
d. to children whose parents do not
e. with children whose parents are native English speakers

Please help.

compare with -- used to compare like things

A, D options are out

IN C, antecedent of those is not clear

B- Comparision issue

IMO E
positive effect on children whose parents speak English .......compared with children whose parents are native English speakers

Hi siddhu161,

This SC is based on comparison rules (which also include parallelism).

The first part of the comparison is "...children whose parents speak English as a second language..."

The second part must be comparable to the first AND be in parallel format. We'll need an answer that mentions "children whose parents speak English (as a first language)...."

Then only answer that matches is E
