College: Golden Gate University
Graduated 2009
Major: BSIT
GPA: 3.92

2nd College: University of Maryland Associates in IT 1992

Work- Management, 20+ years in technology, risk management and finance with 12 years international, some fortune 500.

Partially company sponsored, executive level references.

Looking at top 5 or 10 EMBA or MBA programs.

Pending GMAT

Assuming decent GMAT score, will my undergrad school significantly diminish my chances at top 5 or 10?

Dear tsheehan,

In my opinion, you should be looking solely at EMBA programs. I think you will find the peer group difference will affect not only your satisfaction with your education, but also how beneficial the education will be to you. At this point in your career, you need the strategic level perspective and the opportunity to interact with other seasoned professionals. Depending on why you want the MBA, I do think you have the right experience profile for a top EMBA program. Your recent coursework demonstrates your ability to excel in the classroom while working full-time, even at a school viewed as less rigorous than others.

Thanks Lisa, in respect to the GMAT, are the top EMBA programs still requiring such high scores for us seasoned folk. Study is going slow for me due to time constraints and not sure how long to delay the test and applications...?

It depends on the program, but generally EMBA programs do not have the same GMAT expectations as the full-time programs at those schools. Some EMBA programs are not even requiring the GMAT anymore, but those are few in number. You should be able to find a class profile for the EMBA at your target schools which will give you an idea of the average GMAT for these programs.
