What is the core principle tested in this question ? - Now that I can see OA: D - it seems logical - but the underneath principle tested here is still missing for me.

The best method is answering this question IMO is thro the process of elimination.

The given sentence is incorrect as it uses "them" which could refer to the married women or to their children.

Same is the case with B and E

C is incorrect because "those of their husbands' " is a grammatically incorrect. It should either be "those of their husbands" or "of their husbands' " C also uses them incorrectly like A and B

D clears this ambiguity by repeating the comparison with other married women.

It's testing PARALLELISM

found that....and that....

Boils down to D and E

D since when in E is not logical and is not needed.

Always check for parallelism when u see "and","or", "but" etc...
Most common one is "and" followed by "or"

Parallelism applies to idioms,prepositions,verbs etc...
