"techniques" plural requires plural verb. A and E are out.

D has "make possible" which is awkward

In B, "greater ... than" is not linked correctly

Vote for C

If we get down to the essence of the sentence, we can see that:

because of the new techniques in thermal-scanning photography --> possible to study the effects of calefaction (in greater detail than ever before)

Because we know that this technique (that was discovered in the past) has made it possible for further study to take place (presently), we use the present perfect tense.

Present perfect = have/has + past participle

Examples:
We HAVE LIVED in a little hut for three days.
Our country HAS ENFORCED strict immigration laws for thirty years.
They HAVE KNOWN each other for the longest time.

Immediately, we are down to 2 options that use the present perfect tense: option C and option E.

And because the subject in this sentence is plural --> NEW TECHNIQUES, our verb should be plural --> HAVE (instead of HAS).

Therefore, the answer is option C.
