Well, B does not cast doubt on the conclusion. The conclusion is that without funding, art will die. It says that Da Vinci and Co did not receive funding, but maybe they sold their art, and made money from it. Therefore there is no need to stop painting, as long as you make money from it.

That's what D actually says. That even without government support, artists can make money from their art, and thus continue making art, even without government funding.

I hope I was clear enough.
