is NOT an assumption

The Cranston Cougars have recently made an exciting trade. Thanks to the brilliance and ingenuity of the Cougars' general manager, the team has been able to trade its over-the-hill reserve center for a dynamic young point guard thought to be among the ten best in the league. Such a trade can clearly only improve the Cougars' chances at winning this year's title.

Which of the following is NOT an assumption on which the argument depends?

The reserve center has seen little playing time this season.

The loss of the reserve center will not psychologically damage other key players on the team.

The dynamic young point will be able to play this season.

The Cougars do not already have the league's top point guard.

The reserve center was not a crucial piece in a series against the team likely to face the Cougars in a potential title series.

The answer would be A. Playing time is not important because even if he saw a lot, the team could be better with a different player.

This is not likely a GMAT question as the information requires some knowledge of the subject.

Thanks Jim, I too thought this one is not a GMAT Q !

& u r right :

Solution: A

Assumptions are necessary conditions: statements that must be true for a conclusion to have a chance of being true, or, in many GMAT questions, likely to occur. With that in mind, find an answer choice that has little or no bearing on the conclusion; in this case, answer choice (A).
