Which of the following best completes the passage below?
Two popular local restaurants, The Cancan Club and Chez Shay, use two different systems of valet parking. At the Cancan Club, valet parking is both optional and complimentary, and there is some parking around the restaurant. At Chez Shay, however, customers must pay $10 per car for valet parking; though this service is optional, there is no parking within 3 blocks of the restaurant. Because the Chez Shay valet lot is the busier of the two, one can reasonably conclude that Chez Shay customers.


Are wealthier than customers at The Cancan Club

again , GMAT CLUB TEST !
none are close but when u HAVE TO PICK ONE I answered = Because the Chez Shay valet **lot is the busier of the two*** one can reasonably conclude that Chez Shay customers. ....Prefer valet parking to self-parking...busier of the two then one would prefer ?? how much do you agree?

Also another contender= use valet parking when they dine at The Cancan Club ....my reasoning is = that if someone chooses to pay for valet then that person will choose the same service if offered for free...do u agree?

Yes but the problem is the exact wording of choice C.

It says (one can reasonably conclude that Chez Shay customers) "are not deterred from dining at Chez Shay by the expense of valet parking."

But this goes too far. Perhaps customers are deterred. Perhaps Chez Shay would be sold out every night with a list of names waiting for a table, except that many people are deterred by the parking. I mean it could be that CanCan has many more customers in the restaurant. It only says that the parking lot is busier at Chez Shay, maybe this is because it is much larger.

Perhaps people first park in the free lot at CanCan and fill it up. Then they park for free near CanCan until those spots are gone and only then do people go to Chez Shay and pay the $10. You can see that this is a scenario where people ARE deterred and yet the (hypothetically larger) parking lot at Chez Shay is still busier.

"deterred" is not the right word. Maybe if it says, "Chez Shay customers are still willing to dine at Chez Shay despite the expense of valet parking."
