IMO, A

B- Ambiguous pronoun reference 'it'
C,D - correct idiom is 'defend against'. 'defend from' is incorrect
E - Passive voice

IMO.

A - they - ambiguous
B - it - incorrect pronoun
C - they - ambiguous
D - defend from - incorrect idiom
E - Correct

I think the correct answer is E. The error in the sentence that must be corrected is the ambiguous use of the pronoun 'they'. As it stands now they may refer to "guiding principles", "companies", "investors", "governments", or "Companies, investors, and governments"

The correct Idiom is defend against.
