IMO E----> i select this option because i find the tense issue in other choices

A---> Had visited....in this case the second action which should be in past tense has to be there in the sentence but its not there
B---> were forming..use of past continuous is wrong and moreover till now i have never seen any correct OA using this tense..PLUS princely states visited...WHO VISITED is not clear in this choice
C---> have visited...present perfect WRONG, as all the actions are already completed in past nothing is continuing till present
D---> had formed and had visited...past perfect without any event happened after that...moreover i'm bit confused with the use of which...if which refers to the preceding noun than it means only journals formed the basis but sketching also contributed
E---> well m still working on my concepts so can't say that why the use of that here is correct but can say one thing that the use of past tenses formed and visited is correct here and in addition, since the clause "Sketching and keeping" is modifying the independent clause During..bla bla bla...so they here is correctly referring to Emily Eden and Fanny Parks

Hi Atulmangal,

Thanks a lot, I was confused between A and E and missed out the tense "had visited" followed by a simple past tense in A :-(. E is the correct answer.
