Church floor (Need expert help :( )

by voodoo_child » Fri Jul 22, 2011 4:38 pm
Constructed with the finest Italian marble, the floor of the church is its greatest attraction and is more attractive to tourists than are its ornate windows.

attraction and is more attractive to tourists than are its ornate windows
attraction, itself more attractive to tourists than are its ornate windows
attraction, itself more attractive to tourists as are its ornate windows
attraction, being more attractive to tourists than are its ornate windows
attraction, and itself is more attractive to tourists than ornate windows

Source Kaplan
OA B

Two questions - why is B) incorrect and what kind of form is "itself more attractive..blah blah blah". I am not sure about it.

Thanks

Vivian - Thanks for responding. I always make sure to do my homework before posting on BTG. I am a self-learner. I researched this example for over 2 hours and gave up. Apparently, if you look at the links highlighted by you, you will find that people have just expressed their confusion. That's why I sought for your help.

I hope you will be able to help me.

thanks

I picked "A", but I'm not convinced with it.

Reason-
the floor of the church is its greatest attraction and is more attractive to tourists than ...

it is a confusing statement, it says the floor of the church is its greatest attraction and then it says it is more attractive to tourists...When we say greatest attraction..it means it is the thing that tourists find attractive than any other thing.. hence, second statement-...is more attractive to tourists than... is not required, but redundant.

Au contraire, I don't feel "B" is correct.."itself" construction is not good.

Experts...please
