arrange varibles in order

by ern5231 » Wed Aug 19, 2009 9:32 pm
Three variables are given : -(1/5)M, -5M, M-5. Can these three be arranged in increasing order? (1) M<0 (2) M>-5

IMO A
1)M<0
Clearly,-M/5 and -5M are positive and -5M>-M/5
M-5 is negative
so -5M>-M/5>M-5
SUFF

2)
for M=0, all terms are 0
for M<0 ,as in 1
Not SUFF
The powers of two are bloody impolite!!
