A pharmacist mixes grams of a drug that is antibiotic by weight with grams of a drug that is antibiotic by weight to produce grams of a drug that is antibiotic by weight. What is the value of ?

Hi!

what is OA?

I will try to implement "educated guessing" since this question is confusing.

How to Make Educated Guesses on Quant:
https://www.beatthegmat.com/mba/2010/07/ ... s-on-quant
If we're not on track by the one minute mark, then this is when we should switch to educated guessing.
(1) 3j=k

We don't know what k and j stand for
k could be amount of grams of a drug that is antibiotic no. 1
j could be amount of grams of a drug that is antibiotic no. 2

We need to find value of ? of what? there is not enough information so it is INSUFFICIENT

(2) k = 15
this statement alone is INSUFFICIENT because we do not have information about the second ingredient

(1) & (2)
3j=k
k = 15
j = 5
j + k = 20

we are able to calculate the sum but it is not clear if it is "value of"
If the two statements ultimately say exactly the same thing - no more and no less - then you know that the answer is either D or E.
no
If statement 2 includes exactly what statement 1 says plus some additional info, then the answer is neither A nor C. If statement 1 includes exactly what statement 2 says plus some additional info, then the answer is neither B nor C.
no

It could be C or E because the statements complement one another but it can be not enough.

IMO E since there is not enough information

what do you think about educated guessing?

hope it helps!

Best,
Maciek
