At a certain university, if 50 percent of the people who inquire about admission policies actually submit applications for admission, what percent of those who submit applications for admission enroll in classes at the university?
(1) Fifteen percent of those who submit applications for admission are accepted at the university.
(2) Eighty percent of those who are accepted send a deposit to the university.

Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement
(2) alone is not sufficient.
Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.
EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.

ANS E ???

Both statements together are sufficiant.
lets say x people apply.So 0.15x get the offer to join of which 0.8 accept bu sending the deposit.

so total who joined finally is y=0.15*0.8*X

we need to find (y/x)*100.

Does putting a deposit down equate to enrolling in classes? If not then A&B together aren't sufficient.

I guess paying deposit is enrolling.However if they attend the class or not is a different thing.

I disagree . A is insufficient.

getting accepted has no bearing on enrollment.
B - in sufficient .

As know 8 % of those accepted pay tution . So we need the information from A as how many were accepted.

so we need both hence my answer would be C.

It can be C or E coz IMO

If enroll in classes at the university = send a deposit to the university

then it is C

else it is E

Paying a deposit and enrolling are two completely different events. Imagine a person getting accepted in a college that is not his 1st choice. He would pay the deposit to reserve the seat but if he gets accepted by his 1st choice college later, it is quite possible that he will enroll there (perhaps by paying the full fees) and forfiet his deposit to the other college

So E is the correct answer

Sankruth,

Paying deposit is enrollment. You can enroll in and attend any number of schools as you like. The point you are getting to is attending after enrolling . Holding a seat can only happen after enrollment which is where the deposit comes in .
