125 improved or side effect

by ern5231 » Tue Oct 06, 2009 1:22 pm
10% of people have side effects. 60% of those who improved also have side effects. How many people improved but had no side effects?

(1) 90% of the people improved

(2) 90% people who have side effects also improved

I don't see how the answer could be anything except "E".

The question is "how many people....". In order to answer a question about a number, we need at least one actual number somewhere in the information. However, all of the information we have is about percents, so it's impossible to come up with an actual number of people.

Is the full question there? GMAT questions (especially DS) are all about precise language, so omitting words or even changing a couple of words can have a dramatic impact on the correct answer.
