Problem 17 OG Quantitative review (green book)

by leo700 » Mon Jan 24, 2011 12:03 pm
What was the amount of money donated to a certain charity?
(1) of the amount donated, 40 percent came from corporate donations
(2) of the amount donated, $1.5 million came from noncorporate donations
The problem does not specify who donated the money, since this is a data sufficiency problem how do you know that only corporate and noncorporate were the only ones who gave money?
Answer: C

St 1 ] 40% from corporate
=> No idea about the total sum --- INSUFF

ST 2 ] $1.5 from ncorporate
=> No idea what share it is of the total amt donated --- INSUFF

st1 + st2 => $1.5 million = 60% of total donation hence we can solve it for a definate value --- SUFF

ans = C

Hope this helps.
Thanks & Regards,

all donations are either corporate or not corporate. Not corporate could be made up of many different categories, but there is no middle ground.
