remainder question

from the og 12th edition

If s and t are positive integers such that s/t = 64.12, which of the following could be the remainder when s is divided by t?
(A) 2
(B) 4
(C) 8
(D) 20
(E) 45

answer is E.
i correctly picked E, but i'm not sure if i got lucky or not.
in my head, i thought the remainder depends on what t is.
if t is 100, then remainder is 12.
if t is 50, then remainder is 6.
if t is 25, then remainder is 3.
i kept simplifying 12/100 to 6/50 to 3/25.
based on that sequence, i noticed the remainder is a multiple of 3.
so i scanned the answer choices and 45 was the ONLY one that's a multiple of 3.
is this a correct method or am i just delusional and got lucky.

s/t = 64.12

=> s = 64t + 0.12t

The remainder is thus 0.12t, which should be a whole number.

Only option (E) i.e. 45, is divisible without any remainder by 0.12

0.12t will be a integer as Remainders will be Integers

0.12t = X

Find t from the given options whereinwhich gives X/0.12 as a integer.

Start with

(A) 2

2/0.12 =NOt a integer

(B) 4

4/.12 =NOt a integer

(C) 8

8/.12 =NOt a integer


(D) 20

20/0.12= NOt a integer


(E) 45

45/0.12 = Integer.
