For a certain dinner, the ratio of number of chicken to beef to fish is 7 to 9 to 2. If the number of fish is greater than 5, what is the number of fish?
(1) The sum of chicken and beef is less than 30.
(2) The number of chicken is less than 25.
A. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient but Statement (2) ALONE is not sufficient.
B. Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient but Statement (1) ALONE is not sufficient.
C. BOTH Statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER Statement alone is sufficient.
D. Each Statement ALONE is sufficient.
E. Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.

Let's assume that chicken is 7x, beef 9x and fish 2x
The number of fish is greater than 5. Then 2x>5 => x>2.5

ST 1. I think there's a typo. Sum of chicken and fish(not beef) is less than 30. 7x+2x<30. Then x<3.33. x must be greater than 2.5. So x=3. Then the number of fish is 6

ST 2. 7x<25 => x<3.... => x=3. Fish =6

How does this lead to x = 3?
If x < 25/7, x could be 1, 2 or 3

vaivish, please confirm if there is a typo (as mentioned in bomond's post) in the initial text posted

From the original, we know that the number of fish is > 5, so x can't be 1 or 2.

So, if x > 5/2 AND x < 25/7, the only integer value left is 3.
