gmatprep - business recovery plan

Of the 1,000 companies responding to a certain survey, what percent indicated that they had a business recovery plan?

(1) 200 of the companies did not indicate that they had business recovery plan

(2) the number of companies that indicated that they had a business recovery plan was 4 times the number that did not indicate that they had a business recovery plan

I am not 100% sure...

1- 200 no recovery plan-> 800 / 1000 = % of companies that had a bp recovery
2- recovery = 4(norecovery)
recovery + norecovery = 1000
you can set up system two ecuations and two unknowns

So answer should be D

OA:D
total companies surveyed = 1000

Statement I

200 no recovery plan
1000-200 = 800 recovery plan.

Sufficient.

Statement II

recovery plan companies is 4 times the companies with no recovery plan

Therefore the ratio of recovery : no recovery is 4:1

companies with recovery plan = (1000/5)* 4 = 800

Sufficient.

Hence D is the answer.

Hope this helps.

If we look at the option a) 200 of the companies did not indicate that they had business recovery plan
that could mean 2 things-1) 200 companies had no recovery plan
2) 200 companies did not indicate that they had business recovery plan could also mean that 200 out of 1000 companies DID NOT indicate if they had a business plan or not.

Do you guys agree?
Absolutely!!!

Had it not for the OA i.e. D i would have certainly picked B as the answer.

I actualy selected E because B had the same flaw
(2) the number of companies that indicated that they had a business recovery plan was 4 times the number that did not indicate that they had a business recovery plan
What d you think parallelchase?
